Grow room air conditioning is slightly different than common home air conditioning, but share all the common terms and technologies such as SEER rating which stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating which tells us how efficient a unit is at converting energy into cooling power and 1 Ton equals 12,000 BTUs of cooling power.
Mini Split units are common for grow rooms due to the energy efficiency of not having energy losses due to ductwork that most home AC units have to transport cool air throughout. Mini Splits are so called because they separate the unit into an indoor air handler and an outdoor condenser thus keeping the hot air out and the cool air in.
Some important features to look for are quick-connect, DC inverters and auto-restart. A unit with the Quick Connect feature comes with pre-charged lines and allows you to install the AC unit yourself without the requirement of an AC Professional to install your system. Units with DC Inverters allow you to run the air conditioning at variable speeds and are more reliable, smoother running and more efficient than units without DC inverters, saving you money. The Auto-Restart feature means your system will start right back up after a loss of power instead of requiring you to be present.
