Warm water temperatures in hydroponics can lead to bacteria growth causing root rot and all sorts of problems, but the benefits of cooler water are not just avoiding bacteria, it also can hold more oxygen leading to faster more vigorous root growth as well as using fewer nutrients as the cooler water makes them more available to your plants. Most water chillers require a comparable pump in order to function and are rated based on the size of your reservoir, 1/10 HP chiller will typically work up to 40 gallons while a 1/2 HP will effectively cool 50-250 gallons.
