The Bluelab Commercial Truncheon Reads to 6.0 EC

This is the long-range version. Standard truncheons top out lower. This one runs 0.4 to 6.0 EC, 4 to 60 CF and up to 4200 ppm on both TDS and 700 scales. Crops pushed hard in late bloom sit above what a standard meter can show. A meter pinned at the top of its scale tells you nothing. There are no buttons, no switches and no knobs. Auto-sense turns it on when it hits solution and off when it comes out. The only way to leave it running is to leave it in the tank.

Reading an EC and PPM Nutrient Meter Correctly

Temperature is the whole trick with a conductivity reading. Drop the probe head in for one to two minutes so it comes to solution temperature. Lift it, then dip again for the reading the LEDs flash out. Rushing that step is where most bad numbers come from. Rinse in fresh water after use and clean the probe monthly to keep it honest. It never needs calibrating, which is the argument for owning one at all. Two honest limits are worth stating. The LED scale steps in increments rather than showing a decimal, so this is a working meter and not a lab instrument. And the range starts at 0.4 EC, so it will not read RO or plain tap water. Battery life runs a year minimum on three AA cells, with a 5 year warranty behind the meter.
