Trellis Netting + Plant Support

Trellis netting holds branches in place as they stretch, keeping the canopy level, open to light and off the lamps. Pick soft nylon or a stretch net for tents, HDPE bulk rolls for greenhouse rows, and a second layer for heavy flowering crops.

Trellis Netting: Soft Mesh, Plastic Bulk Rolls and Tent Nets

Trellis netting gives branches a grid to grow into, so the canopy stays even and heavy tops stay upright. This collection covers soft nylon from Common Culture and Grower's Edge and HDPE plastic rolls from Hydrofarm, VineLine and Tenax Hortonova. Tent nets and a four-roll trellis mover round it out....

Anchor the net with our stakes and markers, and tie it off with our clips, ties and tape. Both sit in the wider Containers + Support range.

Types of Plant Support Netting

Soft Mesh Nylon and Woven Nets

Common Culture soft mesh comes in 3.5 or 6 in squares, from 5 x 225 ft to 6.5 x 350 ft. Grower's Edge knitted nylon stretches as a branch loads it and recovers when the load comes off. Hydrofarm woven polyester gives under load, so tie it every 12 to 18 in. Pick soft mesh for tents and rooms you reset each run.

Plastic HDPE Bulk Rolls

Common Culture plastic rolls run up to 4,920 ft, many with Trojan scissors included. Hydrofarm HDPE holds tension without stretching and takes UV outdoors. VineLine rolls run 3,300 ft with 4 in squares but are not UV treated. Tenax Hortonova comes 94 or 120 in wide for greenhouse rows.

Tent Nets and Roll Movers

The Garden HighPro PRONET 120 stretches to fit 2x2 to 4x4 tents with four corner hooks. Botanicare Horti-Trellis comes precut at 4 x 8 or 4 x 16 ft and rinses off for reuse. The Trellis Slayer 9000 carries four rolls on 6 in casters for long greenhouse runs.

How Growers Use Plant Support Netting

Hang the net before plants need it, so they grow into it rather than being tied to it later. Tuck new growth under the squares each week, the screen of green (SCROG) method. On a 4 ft bench, a 5 ft wide net leaves about 6 in a side to wrap and tie outside the canopy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to use trellis netting in a grow tent?

Hang the first layer in veg, about 8 to 12 in above the medium, while stems still bend. Hook the corners first, then the sides, until the mesh sits flat. Add a second layer 6 to 10 in higher during the stretch, as the PRONET 120 instructions describe.

Nylon vs plastic trellis netting: which is better?

It depends on the job. Soft nylon gives a little and lets stems come out unmarked, which suits tents and indoor rooms. HDPE rolls like Hydrofarm's hold tension without stretching and resist rot and UV, so they suit long greenhouse and outdoor runs. Many growers keep both on hand.

What mesh size should I use?

A 6 in square fits a whole hand for tucking and harvest, while 3.5 in holds short, heavy branches at closer intervals. VineLine notes that 4 in is where most growers settle for flower support. With wide mesh, run two layers rather than one tighter net.
