Green LED Lights for Grow Rooms: Work, Egress and Bulbs

Green LED lights let you see in a grow room after lights-off, so you can scout, check irrigation or fix gear in the dark period. The range covers a 4,700-lumen Gator room light and Growlite and iLuminar wall fixtures with battery backup. It also includes an Active Eye rechargeable worklight and a 9W Grow1 bulb....

These are work lights, not grow lights. For growth lighting, see our LED grow lights, part of the wider grow lights range. To protect your eyes when the main lights are on, add a pair of grow room glasses.

Types of Green Lights

Room and Egress Fixtures

The Gator puts out 4,700 lumens at 530 nm from 48W and spreads a 120° beam over roughly 20x20 ft. The Growlite GLE-GL vaportight gives 1,069 lumens and mounts with magnets. The IP65 iLuminar iLW rates 64 µmol/s. Both wall units offer a 90-minute battery backup for egress paths.

Portable Work Lights

The Active Eye pairs a 5W panel for wide light with a 3W flashlight for close checks. It recharges, runs up to 4 hours and sticks to bench frames with magnets. Pick it for walkthroughs and spot inspections.

Screw-In Bulbs

The Grow1 9W bulb fits any standard E27 socket on 110V, so a clamp light or ceiling fixture becomes a green work light. It is rated for 20,000 hours.

How Growers Use Green Lights

Makers rate these fixtures as safe for short-day crops in the dark period. Michigan State's Erik Runkle notes green light can still regulate flowering in many plants, so keep it dim and brief. Aim fixtures at aisles and work zones, not the canopy, and switch them off when you leave.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is green light good for plants?

Green light does drive growth: MSU research finds leaves absorb about 85% of it, nearly as useful as red or blue. These fixtures are too dim to grow plants, though. They exist so you can see during the dark period, while full-spectrum LED grow lights do the growing.

Is green light OK for plants at night?

Green work lights are made for exactly this, in short sessions. The makers of these lights rate them as plant-safe for short-day crops. Plants can still sense green, so limit time and intensity, and keep the fixture aimed away from the canopy.

What are green lights used for?

In grow rooms, these lights are for dark-period work: scouting pests, checking drippers, fixing equipment and safe walkways. Battery-backup models like the Growlite and iLuminar run 90 minutes as egress lights if the power drops. The Active Eye handles quick handheld checks.
