Types of Clean Air Equipment

Oxidizing Air and Surface Sanitizers

ProGuard DXB units pair ionization with photocatalytic oxidation and cover up to 500 sq ft each on 25 W. The DXB 100 suits humid cultivation and dry rooms, and the DXB 50 suits trim rooms and corridors. The AiroClean420 AIRO-50XL covers 5,000 cu ft with no media cartridge. Element Air's wall unit covers 2,500 cu ft.

Purifiers with HEPA Stages

The Agriair 2200 PG pairs a 24 in HEPA element, rated 99.99% at 0.3 micron, with two 14 in ionic oxidation generators. Its blower runs 300 to 1,600 CFM on casters. The Agriair 1000 puts MERV-11 and carbon panels ahead of a 14 in PHI cell and covers 3,000 to 8,000 cu ft.

Intake and Exhaust Filters

The Air Box Jr Intake uses MERV 13 media that stops 98% of spores, pollen and insects down to 0.3 micron. It takes a 3 x 12 x 12 in refill. The Air Box Jr Exhaust uses coconut charcoal on the same 10 in flange. The Horti-Control Dust Shroom is a reusable foam filter for 8 in intakes.

How Growers Use Air Purification

Filter what comes in, scrub what goes out, and treat the air in between. Size an intake to its recommended airflow, not its maximum. Keep pre-filters changed, and check each oxidizer's ozone data before it runs in an occupied room.

Are air purifiers good for plants?

The units here are built to run alongside plants. ProGuard states its DXB technology is safe for people and plants, and AiroClean420 says the AIRO-50XL produces no ozone. Agriair publishes no ozone figure for the 1000's PHI cell, so ask for it before installing one in an occupied room.

Air purifier vs carbon filter: what is the difference?

A carbon filter scrubs odor from air as it leaves the room, like the coconut charcoal Air Box Jr Exhaust. An oxidizing purifier treats the air inside the room and the surfaces it reaches. HEPA stages catch particles. Many sealed rooms run all three for different jobs.

Do you need an air intake filter for a grow room?

A filtered intake stops spores, pollen and insects before they reach the canopy. The Air Box Jr Intake stops 98% of them down to 0.3 micron. It is rated at 250 CFM maximum but 125 CFM at 1.0 in water gauge, so size the fan to the lower figure.
