How This Grow Room Air Purifier Treats Air and Surfaces
Most air cleaning in a grow room is filtration, which only works on air that physically passes through the box. This unit does both jobs. A 14 in PHI generator sits inside it, so what leaves the outlet is a treated airstream rather than just a filtered one. That is why it works as a surface cleaner too. The filters in front of the generator are conventional and replaceable, a MERV-11 pleated panel followed by a pleated carbon panel. The generator cell is the consumable that matters, with an output life of 18,000 to 25,000 hours. Run continuously that is roughly two to three years before a cell change. Odour mitigation is rated at up to 85%.
Sizing and Wiring an Air and Surface Purifier for a Room
Coverage is 3,000 to 8,000 cubic feet, which is a wide band, so work out where in it your room sits. The blower is variable from 300 to 650 CFM, and that range is the reason the band is so broad. At the top of the dial it turns over a large space often enough to matter. At the bottom it is quieter and gentler on a smaller room. A room near the top of the coverage figure wants the blower near the top of its range, which means accepting the noise. Power is a single 115 V supply drawing 2.7 A. A 230 V build is also made, drawing 1.5 A, for export or for a facility wired that way. There is no hard wiring and no controller required. The panel carries a recessed on and off switch, a timer running from zero to twelve hours, the speed dial and an hour meter. That last one tells you when the cell is due. Both filters are 16 by 24 by 1 in, so they are an ordinary standard size rather than a proprietary cartridge. The housing is aircraft grade aluminium with silicone sealing and two rubber grip handles. The outlet is 12 in and the unit measures 14 by 20 by 27 in at 40 lbs.
Key Features
- Single 14 in PHI generator: Treats the airstream rather than only filtering what passes.
- MERV-11 plus carbon, 16 by 24: Both panels are a standard 1 in size, not a proprietary cartridge.
- Variable 300 to 650 CFM: Which is what lets one unit cover a wide range of room sizes.
- Rated 3,000 to 8,000 cubic feet: Size the blower to where in that band your room actually sits.
- Cell life 18,000 to 25,000 hours: Roughly two to three years of continuous running per cell.
- Hour meter on the panel: The only honest way to know when a cell change is due.
- 115 V at 2.7 A, or 230 V: A plug-in load with no hard wiring and no external controller.
- Aluminium housing, 40 lbs: 14 by 20 by 27 in, with a 12 in outlet and two grip handles.
