What Goes Into Down To Earth All Purpose

The analysis reads 4-6-2, and the ingredient list is where it earns that. Fish bone meal, blood meal, feather meal, alfalfa meal, rock phosphate, langbeinite and seaweed meal, blended rather than compounded. Beyond NPK it carries 8% calcium, 1% magnesium, 2% sulfur and 2.5% humic acids. That is a fuller secondary profile than most all-purpose blends bother with. Of the 4% nitrogen, 3.6% is water insoluble. That fraction is the reason it feeds slowly instead of spiking.

Rates for a 4-6-2 Fertilizer in Beds and Containers

Preparing a new bed takes 2.5 to 5 lbs per 100 square feet worked into the top few inches. Established plants get a side dress of 2 to 4 oz once a month. Transplants take 1 to 2 tbsp per hole, mixed into the soil and watered in. That is where the non-burning formulation earns its keep, on a root ball that has just been disturbed. Containers take 1 to 2 tbsp per gallon of mix at planting, then the same lightly scratched into the surface monthly. It is OMRI Listed and CDFA registered. The honest limit is speed. A mostly water-insoluble nitrogen source takes weeks of soil biology to release. This is a program feed, not a rescue for a plant that is already pale. Work it in before planting and let the season do the rest, rather than reaching for it when something has already gone wrong. A bag this size covers roughly 500 to 1,000 square feet of new bed at label rate.

Key Features

  • Seven-ingredient blend: Fish bone meal, blood meal, feather meal, alfalfa meal, rock phosphate, langbeinite and seaweed meal.
  • OMRI Listed and CDFA registered: Cleared for certified organic production rather than described as organic on the bag.
  • Rates for beds, transplants and containers: 2.5-5 lbs per 100 sq ft, 1-2 tbsp per hole, or 1-2 tbsp per gallon of container mix.
