What the Active Aqua Commercial Air Pump Delivers

The AAPA70L is an electromagnetic air compressor for hydroponic reservoirs, bucket systems and other jobs that need many air stones running at once. It is rated at 70 liters per minute, about 1,100 gallons per hour, at a pressure above 0.03 MPa. Air leaves the pump through a stainless steel and copper manifold with eight outlets. Each outlet has its own valve, so lines can be opened, trimmed or shut one at a time. The pump draws 60 W at 120 V and no more than 0.5 A. Noise peaks at 60 dB at the pump body. The housing is aluminum alloy, and the cylinder and piston use wear-resistant material for long duty cycles. It ships at 5.8 lb in a 10.0 by 5.3 by 5.9 in carton, packed eight to a case. It carries ETL registration and a one year warranty. The manufacturer UPC printed on the carton is 638104000598.

Sizing and Running a 70 LPM Air Pump

A 70 LPM air pump makes the most sense when one compressor feeds a whole row of buckets or a large central tank. A common rule is at least one liter per minute for every gallon of reservoir, and up to two when roots are heavy. Rated output is measured in free air, so long tubing runs and deep stones deliver less than the label. Check the bubbling at each stone and open or close the manifold valves until every container rolls evenly. Closing outlets that are not in use keeps more air going to the lines that are. Set the pump on a shelf above the water line and add check valves so water cannot siphon back if the power drops. Growers also run it for compost tea in five gallon buckets and for large holding tanks. Strong aeration drives CO2 out of the solution, so pH can drift up faster than before. Replace air stones every few months as mineral scale closes their pores. The pump is quiet for its size but still audible, so a closet or utility shelf suits it better than a bedroom. Keep the intake clear of dust and spray, since everything it breathes goes into the water.
