Gavita Pro 315e CMH, a Compact Single-Ended Fixture
This Gavita fixture is a complete 315 W ceramic metal halide fixture, with ballast, reflector and Philips lamp in one compact unit. It runs on 208-240V and draws about 330 W at full output, roughly 1.4 A at 240V. Two lamp versions are listed: 3100K, a warm spectrum for flowering and full-cycle rooms, and 4200K, a cooler spectrum for vegetative growth and supplemental light. Both lamps fit the PGZX18 socket used by single-ended 315 W CDM lamps. With the 3100K Agro lamp, the system reaches up to 1.9 µmol per watt. Instead of side brackets, the M140 SE reflector clips straight onto the ballast housing. That cuts size and weight and makes the reflector easy to remove for cleaning. The reflector is formed from Miro aluminum for high reflectance. The ballast is sealed in an aluminum housing and cooled passively, with no fan to wear out or pull in dust. The fixture balances on two hanging points and also mounts on Unistrut channel for fixed installs. A Repeater Bus cable comes with every fixture, so units daisy-chain to a Gavita Master Controller. One EL2 controller can run up to 1,000 fixtures across its ports. The fixture is FCC tested and compliant.
Hanging a CMH Grow Light Over the Canopy
A single CMH grow light of this size covers roughly a 3 x 3 ft flowering footprint, and a little more in veg. Larger rooms tile fixtures in a grid so their light patterns overlap at the edges. Start higher above young plants and lower the fixture as the canopy fills and stems firm up. Ceramic metal halide gives a broad spectrum with good color rendering, so deficiencies and pests are easy to spot by eye. Many growers run the cooler lamp through veg and switch to the warmer one for flower. Others run the warm lamp from start to finish and keep the rooms simple. Wire the fixtures to a Master Controller to schedule and switch them from one point instead of a timer on every circuit. Leave space above each fixture so heat can rise and vent away, since the passive ballast relies on moving air. Wipe the reflector with a soft cloth every few cycles. A dull surface throws away light. Replace lamps on the maker's schedule, because output fades long before a lamp fails. Let the fixture cool before a lamp swap, since metal halide lamps run hot.
