How This Greenhouse Disinfectant Is Mixed

What arrives is a sealed dry pouch, not a bottle of solution. Drop it into the volume of water printed on the pack and chemistry does the rest, generating chlorine dioxide at 100 ppm. Agitate it and then leave it an hour before use, because the solution needs that long to reach full strength. Once mixed it goes onto hard non-porous surfaces: aluminium, stainless steel, plastic, PVC and glass. Ten minutes of contact time is what the label asks for to disinfect. It leaves no residue behind when it dries. The active ingredient is sodium chlorite at 30.5 percent and registration is EPA number 87508-3-89334. The signal word on that label is Danger, which is worth knowing before anyone opens a pouch. Read the label for the protective equipment it requires.

Where It Fits in Grow Room Sanitation

Between cycles is the obvious moment, when a room is empty and every surface can be wetted at once. Benches, walls, trays, tools and trolleys all qualify as hard non-porous surfaces. ProKure state the product is suitable for use with plants in the room. That is the unusual part, and the reason it gets specified in live facilities. Mould and mildew of the kind that establishes in a greenhouse are named on the label. The registered virucidal claim covers SARS-CoV-2 on hard non-porous surfaces in thirty seconds. Chlorine dioxide also deals with odour rather than covering it, because it oxidises the molecule instead of masking it. The honest limit is that this is a surface treatment and not a fumigant. Porous material, growing medium and fabric are all outside what it is registered for. A gas product is the separate answer for a sealed room.
