A Next Gen 155 and an older Dual 155 pull the same pints and take different filters. This is the Next Gen panel, Quest part 4042787, square where the Dual's is oblong. Its MERV 13 media catches the spores and fine dust before they reach the evaporator. That holds the machine at rated capacity and keeps the coil out of a teardown. Quest catalogues it as 18 x 18 x 2 and it measures 17.5 x 17.5 x 1.75. Read the generation off the data plate before matching either number.

Quest 225 MERV 13 Replacement Filter and the Coil It Guards

Quest part 4042787 is the pleated MERV 13 panel that seats in a Next Gen 155, 205 or 225. It is the last thing between the room and the evaporator coil. In a flowering room that room is carrying leaf dust, spent media and spores. MERV 13 is the densest grade Quest offers in this size. The EPA holds it to 50 percent or better from 0.3 to 1 micron. That rises to 85 percent from 1 to 3 microns and 90 percent from 3 to 10. Quest frames the same grade as 65 percent more effective than MERV 8 and 20 percent more than MERV 11. Keeping it fresh is a capacity question as much as an air quality one. A clogged panel makes the unit draw full power for fewer pints. Quest catalogues the size as 18 x 18 x 2 and a tape reads 17.5 x 17.5 x 1.75.

Quest 225 Filter Size Depends on Which Generation of 225 You Own

This is the part most 225 owners get wrong, and the pint rating will not tell you. Quest sold a Dual 225 and later a Next Gen 225. Same number on the badge, different chassis, different panel. The Next Gen takes this one. A Dual 225 takes a 16 x 20 x 2 MERV 11, part 4021475-01, which will not seat here. Read the part number off the data plate first. Quest publishes this filter for the 225 at 208/230V under unit parts 4042800 and 4046100. The 205 at 115V uses 4046110 and the 155 at 115V uses 4046120. The 200 50-Hz uses 4046100-NC. One panel each, unlike the 6 Series which runs two. The limit worth naming is that Quest offers no coarser grade in this size. A dusty room will load this media faster than it would a MERV 11, and there is no way to trade capture for interval.

Key Features

  • Quest part 4042787: The part number to match for a single panel, which is how these are stocked
  • MERV 13 pleated media: EPA holds the grade to 50 percent or better from 0.3 to 1 micron, the band where mold spores and fine dust sit
  • Keeps the evaporator coil clean: Quest's manual warns a clogged coil can need disassembly to clean, which is the repair this panel exists to prevent
  • Holds rated capacity: A clogged panel makes the unit draw full power for fewer pints, so fresh media is the simplest way to hold output
  • 18 x 18 x 2 nominal, 17.5 x 17.5 x 1.75 actual: Both figures published here, which settles the gap between the Quest catalogue and a tape measure
  • Next Gen only, not the Dual line: A Dual 225 of the same pint rating takes a 16 x 20 x 2 MERV 11, and the two panels are not interchangeable
  • Unit part numbers published: Quest lists 4042800 and 4046100 for the 225, 4046110 for the 205, 4046120 for the 155 and 4046100-NC for the 200 50-Hz
  • One panel per unit: Unlike the Quest 6 Series, which runs two, these units take a single filter
