
Why Cocos A and B Is Not the Same as a Soil Feed
Coco coir behaves like a buffer as much as a medium. Its cation exchange capacity holds and releases calcium, magnesium and potassium in ways soil does not. A feed written for soil walks straight into that. This base is formulated around that behaviour. The macronutrient and magnesium ratios are set for pure coco, or any blend carrying thirty percent coco or more. Part A reads 0.3 percent total nitrogen, of which 0.28 percent is nitrate and 0.02 percent ammoniacal, alongside 0.3 percent soluble potash. It is derived from calcium nitrate, ammonium nitrate, nitric acid and potassium hydroxide. Those are low headline numbers because this is a concentrate you dilute heavily rather than a ready mix. The working range runs from half a millilitre to three millilitres per litre of each part, which is roughly two to eleven millilitres per gallon. Where you sit in that range depends on the stage of growth and what your runoff is telling you.
Mixing a Two-Part Coco Fertilizer Without Losing Calcium
The sequence matters more here than the rate. Start with fresh water in the reservoir, then add part A, mix it through and let it stand. Only then add part B, mix again and let it stand a second time. Never put A and B together in concentrate. Calcium from one and sulfate or phosphate from the other will precipitate out and drop to the bottom of the drum. What lands on the floor of the tank is calcium your plant will never see. Use equal volumes of both parts every time, since the formulation is balanced on that assumption. Once both are in, set the tank to a pH between 5.8 and 6.3 before adding any stimulants. Coco itself will drift the tank over a few days, so check rather than assume.
