Trays + Domes

A humidity dome traps moisture around unrooted cuttings and fresh seedlings, so they hold water until roots can take over. Single trays pair a 7 inch dome with a 50 or 72 cell insert. Full racks use the Athena VPDome, and TurboKlone growers fit the matching dome.

Trays + Domes

Propagation Domes, Trays and Cell Inserts

A humidity dome sits over a 10 x 20 propagation tray and holds moisture around cuttings and seedlings until they root. This collection covers Super Sprouter, Mondi and TurboKlone domes, heavy-duty trays and cell inserts, plus complete kits from AC Infinity and Jump Start. Planning a full bench? Fill the cells from our seed and cloning plugs range, and add bottom heat from heat mats and thermostats. All of it sits under propagation supplies.

Types of Trays and Domes

Propagation Trays and Cell Inserts

The Super Sprouter Quad Thick tray is injection moulded at about four times standard wall thickness, 10 x 20 x 2.25 inches deep. Mondi trays add reinforced walls. For cuttings, a 50-cell insert gives cells close to 2 inches square. Fast seed fits the 72-cell insert. Grodan Gro-Smart flips from 78 plug cells to an open mesh for blocks.

Vented Propagation Domes

The Super Sprouter 7 inch dome has two vents and tracks for an 18 inch T5. Mondi makes 4 and 7 inch domes. Tall domes give cuttings headroom, while low ones suit seed trays. TurboKlone domes fit one machine each, so match the model badge. For whole racks, the Athena VPDome covers a 48 x 72 x 16 inch wire rack holding up to sixteen trays.

Complete Propagation Kits

AC Infinity kits pair a vented dome with a 72 or 40 cell tray. The Jump Start Hot House adds a 17 watt heat mat and a 7.5 inch dome, but no thermostat. Our propagation station guide pairs the Super Sprouter dome, Quad Thick tray and 72-cell insert with a heat mat.

How Growers Use a Clone Dome

Water from below and pour off the excess, since damping off starts where water sits against the stem. Keep vents shut for fresh cuttings. Crack them once white root tips show, then lift the dome off before plants go under full light.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need a humidity dome for clones?

Yes, for most rooms. A fresh cutting has no roots, so it cannot replace the water it loses through its leaves. A dome keeps the air near saturation while a callus forms. Seed trays use one too, with the dome closed to hold humidity while roots form.

How long to keep humidity dome on clones?

Keep it closed until white root tips appear, then open the vents in stages. TurboKlone puts the target around 60% relative humidity once rooting starts. Super Sprouter advises having the dome off before plants go under full light. Leaving it closed too long invites damping off and soft stems.

Do humidity domes need holes?

They need vents you can open and close rather than open holes. Closed vents hold a fresh cutting near saturation. Opening them a little at a time hardens rooted plants off without moving them. The Super Sprouter 7 inch dome has two vents, and the AC Infinity large kit has four.
