6 Inch Bucket Basket Lid: The Lid and Net Pot in One Piece

This case holds 25 Hydrofarm wide lip bucket baskets, black plastic lids with a 6-inch mesh basket molded into the center. The basket drops about 5.25 inches into the bucket, and the wide lip rests on the rim. Hydrofarm sizes it for 3.5-gallon and 5-gallon buckets. One piece replaces both a separate lid and a net pot, so there is no hole to cut and no cup to seat. The bottom and sides of the basket are open mesh with many holes. Roots grow straight through into the water below, and media drains without pooling. It takes clay pebbles, rockwool, coco or a soil-based mix. The lip also makes each basket easy to grab and lift with wet hands. The same lip gives you a ledge to rest a slim tool while you work. Clean them between runs and they go straight back into service.

Building a Bubble Bucket or Drip Bucket System

A bubble bucket is the simplest system these lids were made for. Set the basket in a 5-gallon bucket, run an air line and air stone to the bottom, and fill with nutrient solution. Keep the water level just under the basket at first, so the media wicks moisture up to young roots. Once roots reach the reservoir, drop the level an inch or two to open an air gap. For drip buckets, run an emitter to the top of the media and let the runoff drain back to a shared reservoir. A 3.5-gallon bucket suits smaller plants or tight rows where a full 5-gallon footprint does not fit. Use opaque buckets, because light reaching the reservoir feeds algae. A case of 25 builds out a full row of buckets with spares for cracked or lost baskets.
