Choosing an AACH25HP Chiller Fitting Kit by Tubing Size

The question comes up constantly and the answer is that you choose. Active Aqua sells the AACH25, AACH25HP, AACH50 and AACH50HP fitting kit in two sizes, and this is the half-inch one. Match it to the tubing already in the loop rather than to the chiller, because the chiller accepts either. Half-inch is the common choice on reservoirs under a few hundred gallons where the pump is modest and the run is short. Above that, or on a long run, three-quarter is usually the better call and there is a kit for that too.

What the 1/2 in Chiller Fittings Kit Contains

Two barbed fittings, two hose clamps, one replacement fuse and two rubber collars for the inlet and outlet. Treat it as the maintenance kit rather than a one-time install part. Collars harden with temperature cycling and eventually weep at the union. The fuse is the part that takes a chiller offline with no warning at the worst point of the season. Keeping one on the shelf costs less than a day of a warm reservoir. Worth saying plainly. On a large loop with a strong pump, half-inch fittings are a real restriction, and stepping to 3/4 in is the right move.
