Advanced Nutrients pH Up: A 0-0-38 Alkaline Adjuster

This is the alkaline side of the Advanced Nutrients pH pair, a concentrated potassium solution. It raises the pH of a mixed feed when your water or nutrients run too acidic. It carries a 0-0-38 label because the hydroxide doubles as 38% soluble potash. Advanced Nutrients sets the targets at 5.5 to 5.8 for hydroponic solutions and 6.2 to 6.3 for sphagnum-based mixes and containers. There is no fixed dose, because the amount depends entirely on your water and your feed. The method is what matters. Mix base nutrients into the water first, then take a pH reading. Add small amounts while stirring, let the solution settle, and retest before adding more. AN recommends checking pH daily for the tightest control. Containers run 1 L, 4 L, 10 L, 23 L and a 208 L drum, so a tent and a commercial fertigation room can use the same product. The potassium it adds is small at adjustment doses, but it still counts toward your total.

Handling Potassium Hydroxide Safely at the Reservoir

Potassium hydroxide is strong, and that cuts both ways. A few drops move a small reservoir a long way, which is why overshooting is the most common mistake with it. Dilute a little in a cup of reservoir water first when adjusting a small tank. Wear chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection when you pour, because the label warns of severe skin burns and eye damage. Never add water to the concentrate, and never let it meet pH Down in the bottle or a measuring cup. Store the jug upright and tightly capped, somewhere cool and away from children and pets. Hard, high-alkalinity tap water rarely needs it at all, while soft water and RO systems are where it earns shelf space.
