What Comes in the AutoPot 12 Pot System

Twelve plants in three rows of four run from one large tank and a single set of taps. The heart of the kit is a 60 gal FlexiTank, a collapsible reservoir that stands about 25 in wide and 31.9 in tall when full. AutoPot sizes that volume to serve the twelve pots in this kit. Each of the twelve square pots holds 3.9 gal of mix and sits in its own grommeted tray with a lid. Inside every tray, an AQUAvalve5 lets solution in to a depth of about 1 in and then closes. It reopens only after the plant has emptied the tray, so roots see a wet phase followed by a dry one. Big plants cycle more often than small ones, and nothing floods in the process. No pump, timer or outlet is involved anywhere along the line. Twelve Root Control Discs come in the box, one for the base of each pot. The complete kit ships at around 35 lb before the tank is filled.

Running an Automatic Watering System Across Three Rows

An automatic watering system at this scale depends on a steady main line. A 1/2 in click-fit tank adaptor and filter sit at the FlexiTank outlet. From there, 26 ft of 1/2 in pipe runs the length of the room through two inline taps and a 1/2 in tee. Four reducing tees and four reducing crosses drop the feed into 19 ft of 3/8 in pipe for the tray connections. Keep the tank base at least 6 in higher than the highest valve, and set every tray level. Trays work best on a bench or board rather than straight on cold concrete. Pot up with an open mix, around half perlite or clay pebbles blended into coco or soil. Water each transplant in by hand, let it drain, and give the roots a week or more before the taps open. From then on, check the filter weekly and refill once the tank is down to about a third. With mineral feeds, open the flush taps for 30 seconds to a minute each week to clear residue. Twelve plants then feed themselves on their own schedules.
