This is a complete gravity fed kit rather than a starting point. Four 3.9 gallon pots sit on four 1Pot trays with lids, fed from a single 12.4 gallon reservoir with its own lid and grommet. The plumbing is all there. You get a quarter inch filter, two cross connectors and four tee connectors. Two inline taps, a length of quarter inch pipe and four AQUAvalves complete it. Four root control discs finish the kit. The AQUAvalve is the part doing the actual work. It opens when the tray runs dry and closes once the tray has refilled, so each plant takes what it uses and nothing more. No pump, no timer, no power at all. Gravity from the raised tank is the only pressure in the system.

Running a 4 Pot Hydroponic System Without Mistakes

A few habits separate a system that runs itself from one that floods or starves. Pot up, water through by hand, then leave the plants to establish for seven to ten days before switching the feed on. That dry period drives roots down, and it is the step most people skip. Put the root control disc in gold face down, one per pot, or roots will find their way into the valve. Raise the tank at least six inches above the highest AQUAvalve, and refill when about a third of the solution is left. Never let it run dry. Substrate matters as much as the hardware here. AutoPot suggests roughly half perlite mixed with soil or coco, because capillary action is what lifts water up through the pot. Clay pebbles alone will not wick far enough, and unstable brands can push the tray pH around unless they are presoaked first. Use mineral feeds rather than organic ones, since organics tend to block quarter inch pipework and the valves behind it.
