One Big Plant on the AutoPot XL System

This kit is built around a single, deep pot for a plant that needs real root room. The round pot holds 6.6 gal of mix and stands about 14.5 in tall, roughly 13 in across the rim. It sits in a 1Pot XL grommeted tray with a lid, about 15 in square, and the pot turns freely in the tray. An AQUAvalve5 in the tray floor lets solution in to about 1 in deep, then shuts. Nothing more flows until the plant has taken that tray down to empty. That pause between fills lets air back into the lower root zone and keeps the mix from staying soggy. Feed comes from a 12.4 gal solid reservoir with a lid, set a little higher than the tray. Gravity is the only pressure in play, so the setup runs in a greenhouse, a tent or a back porch with no outlet. AutoPot tags this one-pot layout as a fit for a 2 x 2 ft tent. Tomatoes, peppers and other heavy feeders all suit the larger pot volume.

Setting Up the 1Pot XL System

The 1Pot XL system goes together in a few minutes with the parts in the box. The reservoir outlet takes the supplied top hat grommet and 3/8 in golf filter. Run the 5 ft of 3/8 in pipe from the filter through the inline tap to the AQUAvalve5. Raise the reservoir so its base sits at least 6 in above the valve. Place the Root Control Disc in the pot gold face down before adding any mix. Fill with a light, free-draining blend, around half perlite or clay pebbles with coco or soil. Transplant a start that stands about 12 in tall and water it through by hand until it drains. Leave the tap closed for 10 to 14 days so roots chase moisture down into the pot. Once the pot feels light, open the tap and let the valve take over. Clean the filter as needed and refill the tank before it falls to a third. More XL trays can join the same line later to grow the setup.

Key Features

  • 6.6 gal round pot: About 14.5 in tall and 13 in across, with room for a large root mass.
  • 1Pot XL tray and lid: Grommeted tray about 15 in square, with a pot that rotates in place.
  • 12.4 gal reservoir: Solid tank with lid and top hat grommet.
  • AQUAvalve5: Fills the tray about 1 in deep and refills only when it runs dry.
  • 3/8 in plumbing: Golf filter, inline tap and 5 ft of pipe included.
  • Root Control Disc: Sits in the base of the pot to manage root growth toward the tray.
  • No power needed: Gravity from the raised tank does all the work.
