What BioWorks RootShield WP Does

This pack delivers Trichoderma harzianum Rifai strain T-22 at 1.15% in a wettable powder. Once watered in, the fungus settles on young roots and grows along with them. It competes with Pythium, Fusarium, Rhizoctonia, Cylindrocladium and Thielaviopsis for space on the root surface. That preventive cover lasts up to 12 weeks from one application, according to BioWorks. The maker also notes more root hairs and quicker root development after treatment. Stronger roots handle transplanting and dry spells with less setback. It is OMRI listed and covered by EPA registration 68539-7. Re-entry is allowed after 4 hours, with a 0-day PHI. One 1 lb pack makes roughly 320 to 530 gallons of drench at label rates. That volume suits propagation benches, clone rooms and smaller greenhouses.

Using a Trichoderma Root Drench in Propagation

A trichoderma root drench is most useful at the moments roots are most exposed. Treat cuttings and seedlings at sticking or sowing, then again at transplant. For small batches, mix 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon per gallon of water. Larger tanks take 3 to 5 oz per 100 gallons. Bare-root transplants can be dipped at 3.0 oz per 10 gallons before planting. Stir often, since the powder settles out of suspension. Apply enough to wet the full depth of the plug, cube or pot. Keep the pack sealed and refrigerated between uses. Avoid drenching with fungicides that are hard on beneficial fungi in the days after treatment. Reapply within 12 weeks on longer crops. With steady use, rooting stays consistent from one batch of clones to the next.
