BioWorks SuffOil-X Spray Oil Emulsion for Mites, Soft-Bodied Insects and Mildew

This is a pre-emulsified mineral oil spray, labeled as an insecticide, miticide and fungicide in one container. The concentrate carries 80% highly refined, paraffinic mineral oil and 20% other ingredients, under EPA registration 48813-1-68539. It works by contact, coating eggs, larvae, nymphs and adults until they suffocate. Aphids, mealybugs, mites, scale, thrips and whiteflies all sit on the greenhouse ornamental label, along with powdery mildew and rust. Because the kill is physical, coverage decides the result. Pre-emulsifying shrinks the oil droplets, which lays down a thin, even film instead of a heavy coat. The mix rate is 1 to 2 gallons per 100 gallons of water, or about 1.25 to 2.5 oz per gallon. Growers start at 1% v/v and move up only when pest pressure calls for it. Re-entry is 4 hours, and the label allows application up to the day of harvest.

Using This Horticultural Spray Oil in a Greenhouse Rotation

Spray to a glisten and stop there, since runoff only stretches the drying time. Work the undersides of the leaves as well as the tops, because that is where mites and whiteflies tend to sit. The film should dry within one to two hours, so pick a window with moving air and humidity under 90%. Stay clear of overcast days, the hours right after rain and night applications. Plants need to be well watered first, as the label warns against spraying anything in moisture stress. Keep temperatures above 40°F and under the 90 to 95°F range. Sulfur is the firm no here, in the tank and in the rotation alike. Captan, folpet, carbaryl, dimethoate and NPK foliar feeds stay out of the tank too. Test a handful of plants before treating the whole crop, especially on open blooms. Repeat every 7 to 10 days while pressure lasts. Shake a container that has been sitting, and leave the pH of the solution alone.
