A pH probe reads through a thin glass bulb, and any film of nutrient salts, oils or organics on that glass slows it down. This is Bluelab's care kit for pH probes, product code CAREKITPH. It packs a 30 ml (1 fl oz) bottle of Bluelab pH Probe Cleaner and a soft toothbrush for scrubbing around the glass. Three plastic cups keep each solution separate, so nothing contaminates the next step. Two single-use pH 7.0 sachets and two pH 4.0 sachets cover a pair of two-point calibrations. Two 2.77 EC conductivity standard sachets let a combo meter or conductivity pen be checked at the same time. Each sachet holds 18 ml (0.6 fl oz), enough to cover a pen or probe tip in a cup. Single-use sachets mean every calibration starts with fresh, uncontaminated solution. A printed probe care guide walks through the whole routine. The kit suits Bluelab pH pens, the Soil pH Pen, Leap probes and replaceable controller probes.

Monthly pH Probe Maintenance Routine

Bluelab advises cleaning and calibrating a pH probe about once a month. Clean sooner if readings drift, respond slowly or show an error. Start by filling a cup with tap water and a few drops of the cleaner. Stir the probe tip gently in the cup, taking care not to knock the glass against the side. For heavy build-up, brush lightly around the glass with the toothbrush and a few drops of cleaner. Rinse thoroughly under running water until no cleaner remains. Calibration is required after every clean, so open the pH 7.0 sachet first, then the pH 4.0. Pour each solution into a clean cup, or use it straight from the sachet, and discard it afterward. Never pour used solution back into a bottle. Store the tip wet in KCl storage solution between uses, because a dried-out probe reads poorly. Restock the kit with Bluelab calibration solution bottles once the sachets run out.
