Why a Bluelab Sample Pot Reads Better Than a Tank
A probe reads whatever is touching it, and in a still tank that is not always what the crop is getting. Reservoirs stratify as they stand. Temperature layers, settled solids and the dead zone in a corner all produce a reading that is locally true and globally wrong. Moving water solves that, because a sample drawn from the body of the tank and pushed past the probes is representative of the whole. That is the entire argument for this vessel. A pump lifts water from the reservoir into the pot, the probes sit in the flow, and the surplus falls back. Note the fitting sizes, because the difference between them is deliberate. Intake is half an inch and the overflow is three quarters. The outlet being larger than the inlet is what stops the pot filling faster than it can drain, whatever the pump is doing that day. Fittings for both come with it.
Protecting Probes, and the Guardian Monitor Compatibility
The second job is protecting hardware that costs more than the pot does. A probe hanging free in a tank gets knocked by a lid or snagged by a hose. It also gets lifted out during a top-up and left on a bench to dry. A dry glass pH bulb does not recover, so that last one is a write-off rather than an inconvenience. A dedicated vessel keeps the probes in one known place and makes calibration a matter of lifting them out and putting them back. Compatibility is specific and worth checking first. It works with the IntelliDose controller and the Guardian Monitor Wi-Fi, but not with the Inline version of that monitor. Mount it near the controller so the probe leads reach without strain.
Key Features
- Function: Holds pH and conductivity probes in continuously moving water
- Why flow matters: A still reservoir stratifies and a probe then reads one layer
- Intake: Half inch, fed from a pump in the reservoir
- Overflow: Three quarter inch, returning the surplus to the tank
- Why sizes differ: A larger outlet stops the pot filling faster than it drains
- Probe protection: Keeps probes out of the way of lids, hoses and top-ups
- Dry bulb: A pH electrode left out to dry does not recover
- Calibration: Probes lift out and go back without draining anything
- Compatible: Bluelab IntelliDose and Guardian Monitor Wi-Fi
- Excluded: The Inline version of the Guardian Monitor
