Botanicare CocoPro Cube, Ready to Hydrate and Plant
Filling pots with loose coir eats labor and makes a mess, and this cube skips that step entirely. Part number HGC714866 is a pre-filled block of compressed coco coir in a breathable fabric cover. Each one measures 6 x 6 x 6 in and holds about 1 gallon of media once expanded. A case contains 30 cubes, each weighing about 1.1 lb compressed. The mix blends coir pith, fiber and husk chunks in a ratio Botanicare sets for this container size. Every batch is washed and buffered, which leaves the media with a low EC and a pH in the right range for crops. The coir carries no nutrient charge, so the feed program controls the plant's nutrition from day one. Natural cation exchange capacity lets the pith hold nutrients and release them gradually. The high-porosity mix drains freely, so frequent fertigation is possible with little risk of overwatering. A pre-drilled indentation on top takes a plug or rooted cutting without any digging. The fabric cover air-prunes roots at the edge, which encourages branching through the block.
Hydrating and Feeding Coco Coir Cubes
Hydrate the cubes with nutrient solution adjusted to pH 5.8 to 6.2, mixed at the rate the crop will receive. Set them on a flood table and bottom water, or top water by hand, and they expand in roughly 8 to 10 minutes. Drip lines also work, more slowly but very evenly, once the stakes are aimed straight onto the coir. Transplant the starts, then water again until about 10 to 15 percent runs off. From there, watch moisture with a sensor or lift a block to feel its weight. Pulse feeding works well, with several small irrigations starting an hour or two after lights-on. Stop before lights-out so the blocks dry back a little overnight. Aim for 5 to 20 percent runoff across the day to keep salts from building. Track root-zone EC with the pour-through method rather than the drain water. Never let the blocks dry out hard, because dry coir is harder to rewet. The cubes suit greenhouses and indoor rooms, not outdoor beds. At the end of the run, the coir can go to compost once the cover is removed.
Key Features
- Pre-Filled Block: Compressed coir in its own fabric cover replaces filling, potting and mess.
- Washed and Buffered: Low EC and a crop-ready pH give the feed program full control.
- Air-Pruning Cover: Breathable fabric prunes roots at the edge and speeds dry-down.
- Planting Indentation: A pre-drilled hole on top takes a plug or rooted cutting directly.
- Fast Hydration: Expands in about 8 to 10 minutes when bottom watered or top watered.
- Built for Fertigation: High porosity and moderate water holding suit frequent drip feeding.
