Where These Butane Tanks Sit on Size and Blend
Two numbers matter before anything else. The 120 lb is the tank class, so this is bulk supply rather than a canister. The 50/25/25 is the blend: half n-butane, a quarter iso-butane, a quarter propane, guaranteed to 99.5% and sourced in the USA. This is the larger format, and it is not interchangeable with the 20 lb tank.
Why a Tri-Blend Solvent Rather Than a Single Component
Each component brings a different boiling point and a different polarity, and blending them widens the working range rather than committing to one. Propane runs the coldest and carries the highest vapour pressure. N-butane sits in the middle and is the volume component here. Iso-butane branches differently from n-butane and behaves differently under the same conditions. Running a tri-blend solvent means the mix is decided at the supplier rather than by you combining tanks on site. Purity is the other half of the argument. At 99.5% guaranteed, the material arrives clean, colorless and odorless, with no mercaptan odorant added. That absence matters. Consumer fuel gases carry mercaptan specifically so a leak announces itself, and without it your monitoring has to cover the gap. The vessel is DOT refillable LP with a dip tube, so it draws liquid from the bottom rather than vapour off the top.
Key Features
- 50/25/25 n-butane, iso-butane and propane: A supplier-blended ratio rather than three tanks combined on site.
- 99.5% guaranteed purity: USA sourced, arriving clean, colorless and odorless.
- Dip tube for liquid withdrawal: Draws liquid from the bottom of the tank rather than vapour off the top.
- No mercaptan odorant: Nothing added to make a leak smell, so gas monitoring has to cover that.
- DOT refillable LP tank: The 120 lb class, which is bulk supply rather than a canister format.

Handling and Regulatory Notes
- Use only in a well-ventilated area, and only for purposes permitted under your local laws and ordinances.
- BVV advises distillation of every solvent before use.
- California restricts retail supply of butane above 150 mL. Permitted channels are listed under CA Bus & Prof Code Division 10 and CA Health & Safety Code 11362.775.
