The Char Coir BioPot as a Solo Cup Replacement

Plastic solo cups do one job and then become waste. This unit does the same job and becomes part of the root zone. Each one is compressed coco coir wrapped in a fabric pot. Add water and it expands to about 4 in across, holding 1.89 L of medium. That is the same working volume as the cup it replaces. The coco is 100% RHP certified, the Dutch horticultural standard for substrate quality. It arrives buffered with an EC below 0.6, so there is no rinsing or calcium soak beforehand. pH is stabilised between 6.0 and 6.5. A case holds 128 units and weighs about 30 lbs dry. Char Coir palletises them 54 boxes to a pallet.

Running RHP Certified Coco Coir Through Veg

Cuttings and seedlings go straight into a hydrated pot without the usual transplant setback. Roots meet fabric rather than plastic, so they air prune at the wall instead of circling. When the plant is ready, the whole unit drops into its next container. There is no root disturbance because nothing comes out of anything. Feed as you would any coco crop, which means a little and often rather than long dry-back cycles. Coco holds plenty of water but releases it readily, and a half gallon of medium can run dry in a hot room. Judge by weight rather than by surface colour when deciding to water. Pathogen-free medium is the other half of why growers use these in propagation. Nothing carries over from a previous crop.
