Chikamasa CRI-360SFV: One Pair for Stems, Tape and Wire

This violet pair comes from Chikamasa's Florist line, the scissors used in flower-arranging classes across Japan. The 45 mm blade is high-grade stainless tool steel given a special heat treatment for a tough, keen edge. A fluorine coating sits on top, and microscopic texturing under it helps the coating stay put through heavy use. Sap and the adhesive from floral tape both slide off that surface instead of gumming the edge. Near the pivot, a short serrated section bites into annealed floral wire up to about #18 gauge. The whole tool measures 160 mm and weighs 60 g, light enough to carry in an apron pocket all day. Grips are soft PVC over a stainless steel core that runs deep into the handles. That core gives a solid, planted feel when you lean into a thick stem. The pivot is a stainless steel rivet, so humidity and wash water do not seize it. A polypropylene cap ships with the pair to cover the points in a drawer or tool bag.

Florist Scissors That Earn a Place in the Grow Room

Cut-flower growers use this style for stems straight from the bucket, and it translates well to a nursery bench. Taking cuttings, clipping plant ties and opening wire-wrapped bundles all happen without reaching for a second tool. The wide finger loops fit gloved hands better than the slim loops on trimming scissors. There is one clear limit. This blade is longer and blunter at the point than the B-500 trimming models, so it is not the pick for detailed bud manicuring. For that job, a slanted or curved B-500 fits the work far better. Keep the wire notch for soft floral and twist-tie wire only. Chikamasa warns that piano wire and other hardened steel will chip the serrations and damage the edge. After a sticky session, wipe the blades with a cloth, then add a drop of light oil at the rivet so the action stays smooth. Put the cap back on before it goes in a pocket, because those points stay sharp.

Key Features

  • Fluorine-Coated Stainless Blade: Sap and tape adhesive slide off, and micro-texturing under the coating helps it resist peeling.
  • Built-In Wire Notch: A serrated section near the pivot cuts soft floral wire up to about #18 gauge without a separate cutter.
  • Steel-Core Soft Grip: A stainless core runs deep into the violet grips, giving a steady feel on thick stems.
  • Wide Finger Loops: Roomy loops work bare-handed or in gloves during long bench and cutting sessions.
  • Stainless Rivet: A stainless pivot rivet resists rust and wear, keeping the action smooth after washing.
  • Blade Cap Included: A polypropylene cap covers the points for safe storage in a drawer, apron or tool bag.
