Chikamasa T-500S Stainless Thinning Shear With Spring

In Japan this pattern is sold as a professional fruit-thinning shear, built for growers who clip stems all day. The blade is high-grade stainless tool steel, heat-treated for toughness and ground at an angle that bites cleanly. Its outer faces are smoothed round, so the blade can work inside a fruit cluster without scoring the neighbours. Cutting length is a short 35 mm, which keeps the point precise among tight stems. The whole shear runs 170 mm and weighs about 100 g, noticeably more solid than a trimming scissor. That weight comes from handles pressed from steel plate and finished in a non-slip plastic coating. Between them sits a spring Chikamasa designed not to jump out of its seat mid-harvest. Its opening is tuned for long sessions rather than a snappy first impression. A stainless rivet holds the pivot tight and resists wear. The patented ring at the base has a small tab, so it slides on and off to lock the blades closed.

Harvesting Scissors for Fruit, Flowers and Vegetables

This is a picking and thinning tool first. Growers use it to clip tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers from the vine, snip table grapes, and cut flower stems at the bench. In a flower room it earns a spot for taking down branches and bucking flower from stems before a trim. The steel handles shrug off the knocks of a harvest bin in ways moulded grips cannot. They also feel colder and firmer in the hand, which some people like and others do not. For hours of fine manicuring on sticky flower, a lighter TP-500 or B-500 pair suits the job better. There is no fluorine coating here, so resin and sap build on the blade and want a wipe with isopropyl every so often. Stainless blades tolerate wash-downs and humid rooms well, but dry them before storage all the same. Chikamasa warns against cutting thick branches or anything hard, which will chip the edge. A dedicated belt case, the CS-T6, is sold separately for anyone who carries it down the rows.

Key Features

  • Stainless Tool Steel Blade: Heat-treated stainless takes a keen edge and tolerates wash-downs and humid rooms without rusting.
  • Rounded Blade Faces: The outer faces are smoothed round, so the tip works inside a cluster without scoring nearby fruit.
  • Secure Torsion Spring: The spring is built to stay seated through long harvests and reopens the blades after each cut.
  • Coated Steel-Plate Handles: Steel handles with a non-slip plastic coating stand up to harvest bins and rough handling.
  • Patented Locking Ring: A tabbed ring slides on and off easily to hold the blades closed between jobs.
