Chikamasa TP-500SR: Curved Blade, Spring Assist, No Coating

Think of this pair as the curved TP-500 without the fluorine layer. The blade is bare, heat-treated Japanese stainless, curved to hug the outside of a flower. A soft stainless torsion spring between the handles opens the blades after each cut, so the hand only has to close them. Blade length is 35 mm, and the pair measures 155 mm from tip to handle end. Outer faces are ground round, so the back of the curve brushes finished flower without scarring it. The pivot is a hand-tightened stainless rivet with patented grooves that resist resin and rinse clean. Grips are elastomer resin moulded over a steel core, soft to hold but rigid through the stroke. A safety band loops over the handle ends to lock the pair closed and releases with the thumb. Leaving off the coating keeps care simple. There is nothing to scuff or wear thin, just stainless steel that wipes clean.

Torsion Spring Scissors for Dry Trim and Long Sessions

Dry trim is the natural home for this pair. Resin is less tacky after the hang, so an uncoated blade stays cleaner for longer between wipes. The curve covers plenty of surface per pass when shaping the outside of a bud. With the spring doing the opening, a long session at the table leaves the hand noticeably fresher. Wet trim is a different story. Fresh resin grabs bare stainless quickly, so expect to wipe the blade with isopropyl every few buds. If most of your trimming is wet, the fluorine-coated TP-500SRF on the same frame will save a lot of those stops. Deep crevices are the other limit, because a curve reaches less easily than a slanted tip. The spring takes a few minutes of getting used to, and some detail trimmers prefer a springless B-500. Keep it on leaf and small stems, since woody growth can chip the fine tip.

Key Features

  • Curved Japanese Stainless Blade: The curve follows the round of a bud, shaving sugar leaf close with fewer cuts.
  • Soft Torsion Spring: A flexible stainless spring reopens the blades after each cut, easing strain over long sessions.
  • Uncoated Edge: Bare stainless has no coating to wear through and wipes clean with isopropyl.
  • Grooved Stainless Rivet: Patented grooves at the pivot resist resin build-up and rinse out instead of seizing.
  • Steel-Core Grip and Safety Band: Soft elastomer grips over a steel core, plus a band that locks the pair closed for storage.
