How This Air Purifier with UV Light Is Built

Three stages in series. A 3M High Air Flow filter traps particles and carries an antimicrobial layer so nothing colonises the filter itself. A 60W PL-L UV-C lamp then breaks the DNA of what passes, putting out 19W at 254 nm. An ionizer returns the air to natural ion levels on the way out.

Sizing a UVC Air Purifier to the Room

Two numbers do the sizing and they are different things. Coverage is 100 cubic metres, roughly 3,500 cu ft, which is about 437 sq ft under an eight foot ceiling. Throughput is 50 cubic metres per hour, or 1,750 cu ft, so a room at full rated volume turns over roughly every two hours. Run one unit per 100 cubic metres and add units rather than expecting one to cover more. Placement matters too. Hang it where air already moves, and let the existing circulation feed it rather than relying on the unit to pull from corners. What it targets is airborne mould spores, botrytis and bacteria, which is a disease pressure tool rather than a smell tool. It is not a carbon filter and will not take odour out of exhaust. The lamp is fully enclosed in an aluminium tube, so no UV-C escapes and the unit can hang in an occupied room. Lamp life is 9,000 hours, about twelve months running continuously, and the built in timer flags service intervals. The body measures 23.6 x 6.7 x 5.9 in at 7.5 lbs.
