A magnesium supplement earns its place when the symptom sits on the older leaves rather than on new growth. Magnesium moves inside the plant, so a shortage shows first where the plant is willing to give it up. The classic picture is yellowing between the veins on the lower and middle canopy, with the veins themselves staying green. That pattern separates it from a nitrogen shortage, which pales the whole leaf evenly. Weak light makes the demand worse rather than better.
