A complete 315W CMH fixture: reflector, ballast and a Philips 4200K lamp in one box, running off a standard 120 volt outlet. The lamp mounts vertically inside the hood rather than lying across it, which is what lets the reflector throw light from more angles. A six foot lamp cord separates the head from the ballast.

What Comes in a 315W CMH Fixture at 120V

Three parts come in the box: reflector, ballast and lamp. It runs on a standard 120 volt circuit, so nothing has to be wired in. A six foot lamp cord hangs the head away from the ballast body. The lamp mounts vertically rather than lying on its side. That orientation is the reason the reflector behaves the way it does. Cycloptics built the geometry so that under three percent of the lamp rays stay trapped inside on the way out. The aluminium is rated at 95 percent reflective. Horizontal reflectors trap up to twenty percent of the light as heat, and that heat is what kills them. Light leaving cleanly reaches the canopy from more directions. Hot spots directly under the middle of the hood largely disappear.

The Ceramic Metal Halide Case for a 4200K Lamp

Colour temperature here is 4200K, which sits in the transitional band and will run a full cycle if you ask it to. Philips rate the lamp at CRI 90 and 34,300 lumens, with a rated life of 20,000 hours. Plants look like plants under that spectrum, which matters when you are scouting leaves for mites. Most growers pick it for vegetative growth, or to sit beside HPS heads through bloom. Our own lamp comparison put the Philips 4200K around five percent ahead of the next brand tested on total PAR. The honest limit is efficiency measured against a modern LED board. A ceramic halide head draws what it draws, and current LED makes more light per watt. What this still gives you is spectrum quality at a low entry cost for a complete head. Replacement lamps use the PGZ18 base and remain widely stocked. This is the earlier Greenbeams generation rather than the current one.

Key Features
