This is the hydroponics version of the D14MZ10 from Dosatron, part number D14MZ10VFBPHY. It runs entirely on the pressure of incoming water, with no electricity or controller. Water flowing through the unit drives a piston that draws concentrate and injects it in proportion to the flow. That means the dose stays consistent whether the line is running at a trickle or near full flow. The injection ratio adjusts from 1:100 to 1:10, which is 1% to 10%, or about 1.28 to 12.8 ounces of concentrate per gallon. The working range is 0.05 to 14 GPM at 7 to 85 PSI through 3/4-inch NPT connections. The HY build uses Viton seals, which Dosatron specifies for acidic chemistries with a pH of 7.0 and lower. It measures 19 1/8 by 6 5/16 inches and weighs about 6 lbs. Dosatron covers it with a 12-month standard warranty.
Setting Up a Water Powered Doser on an Irrigation Line
A water powered doser needs clean water and a steady supply, so plan the plumbing before mounting it. Put a screen filter and, where supply can exceed 14 GPM, a flow restrictor on the inlet side. This kit includes the integrated bypass, so nutrients can be switched off without rerouting water. The mounting bracket, suction hose, union and weighted strainer also come in the box. Mount the unit on a wall with the arrow following the flow, and drop the strainer into the concentrate tank. Set the ratio on the sleeve, then check the output with an EC meter at the far end of the line. The 10% ceiling suits concentrated stock tanks and higher-dose feeds. Growers running single-part feeds at lower rates may find a 1% to 2% model easier to fine-tune. Rinse the unit with clean water after dosing acids or organics to keep the seals in good shape.
