How Gravity Fed Propagation Works Without a Pump
This is the part that rarely gets explained, and it is the whole reason to choose the system. Nothing in this kit plugs into anything. The tank sits higher than the tray and the water comes down by gravity. An AQUAvalve sits in the tray and opens when the water in the tray drops, then closes when it is back up. Water goes in on demand rather than on a timer. The coco matting under the plants holds that water and wicks it upward by capillary action. The cuttings draw what they need rather than sitting in a flood. The root control sheet keeps roots out of the matting, which is what lets the mat be lifted and replaced between runs. Four vents in the lid are the other half of the control. Closed, the lid holds the humidity a fresh cutting needs. Opened a little at a time over several days, it hardens the cutting off gradually. The alternative is doing it all at once on the day the lid comes off. Two practical notes before anything is committed. There is no heat and no light in this kit, so a mat and a fixture are separate lines. And the tank is filled by hand, so a long propagation run still needs someone to top it up.
