What the EcoPlus Pump Filter Bag Does

This white mesh bag wraps a submersible pump so the intake draws water through fabric instead of straight from the tank floor. Root fragments, perlite, coco fines and nutrient sludge collect on the outside of the mesh. That keeps debris away from the impeller, where it causes wear, noise and lost flow. A cleaner impeller means fewer pump strip-downs and a longer working life for the motor. The large bag measures 10 x 12.5 in, sized for mid-size reservoir and pond pumps. It fits the EcoPlus Eco 185, Eco 264, Eco 396 and Eco 633 fixed-flow pumps. The same bag suits the Mag Drive 250 and 350, plus the Little Giant PE-1, LG 1, NK-1 and NK-2. Each bag weighs about an ounce, so it adds nothing noticeable to the load in the tank. The fabric does not change pH or nutrient strength in the reservoir. One bag per pump is all a typical system needs.

Running a Submersible Pump Filter Bag in a Reservoir

A submersible pump filter bag pays off most in coco, soil and media-based systems, where fines settle in the reservoir. Slip the pump fully inside the bag and keep the power cord and outlet fitting clear of any folds. Set the bagged pump on the tank floor, or on a small stand if heavy sludge builds up there. Check the bag whenever flow at the emitters drops or a film of debris shows on the mesh. Most growers rinse it every two to four weeks, timed with a reservoir change. Lift out the pump and bag together so the trapped sediment does not wash back into the tank. Rinse the mesh under clean water until it runs clear, then refit it before restarting the pump. Inspect the seams and fabric each time, since a small tear lets debris straight through. Replace the bag once it tears or stays clogged after cleaning. Kept clean, the bag keeps the pump moving full flow for many crops.
