What Sets Elite 91 CALMAG Apart on Dose Rate
Most cal mag products ask for five to ten millilitres per gallon. This one runs at 1 to 2 mL per gallon as the standard rate, across soil, coco and hydroponics alike. Push it to 3 to 4 mL per gallon when a crop is showing real deficiency or running under heavy light. Seedlings and fresh cuttings want less again, at 0.5 to 1 mL per gallon. On the label the guaranteed analysis reads 5-0-0. That nitrogen is there to carry the calcium rather than to feed the plant. It will not distort a base feed the way a heavier additive does. The formulation also carries L-amino acids and yucca, which is what makes it usable as a foliar as well as a root feed.
Where a Cal Mag Supplement Earns Its Place
Coco is the obvious case. Coir holds onto calcium and magnesium and releases them slowly, so a plant grown in it runs short even when the base feed looks complete. Reverse osmosis water is the other one. Stripping the water of everything removes the background calcium a plant was living on. The deficiency turns up two weeks later as interveinal yellowing on new growth. Add it to the reservoir before the base nutrients rather than after, and let it mix properly. Calcium will lock with phosphates and sulphates if it meets them at full concentration. Check your pH after it goes in. One honest caution on the low dose. At these rates a measuring error that would be trivial with a weaker product becomes a real overdose. Measure with a syringe rather than a cap. If you are already on hard tap water with calcium in it, you may not need this at all.
