The Quest 100 pulls its air through this pleated MERV 13 panel, Quest part 4042005. It stops the fine dust and mold spores that would otherwise settle onto the evaporator coil. The unit even tells you when it is due, with a filter light that trips at 2,000 hours of fan runtime.

Quest 100 MERV 13 Filter and the 2,000-Hour Reset Behind It

Quest part 4042005 is the pleated panel that sits in a Quest 100. Everything the unit breathes passes through it. Leaf dust, perlite grit, spores. Quest publishes the size as 12 x 14 x 1 and that is what a tape reads. No rounding gap to reconcile on this one. Quest's own wording on the media is that MERV 13 runs 20 percent more effective than MERV 11 and 65 percent more than MERV 8. The EPA holds the grade to 50 percent or better capture from 0.3 to 1 micron. That is the band mold spores travel in. Clean media is a capacity question too, because a loaded face makes the unit draw full power for fewer pints.

Which Quest 100 You Own, and When the Filter Light Comes On

Quest lists this panel against three builds of the 100. The unit appears twice in their catalogue, under part 4032270 and part 4044590, with the 50-Hz build under 4046590-XX. That duplication is Quest's own. The number 4032270 is also what they use for the Dual 105, so read the number off the data plate rather than trusting one listing. The 100 makes the timing easy. It carries a filter reset button that trips after 2,000 hours of fan operation. Press and hold it once the new panel is seated. Quest's manual sets a check every six months and a change at least that often. For agriculture it calls for a change with every grow cycle. One limit worth naming. MERV 13 is the only grade Quest offers in this size. A dusty room loads it sooner, with no coarser panel to fall back on.

Key Features

  • Quest part 4042005: The part number to match for a single panel, which is how these are stocked
  • MERV 13 pleated media: EPA holds the grade to 50 percent or better from 0.3 to 1 micron, the band mold spores travel in
  • 2,000-hour filter reset: The Quest 100 counts fan runtime and lights up when it is due; press and hold the reset once the new panel is in
  • Keeps the evaporator coil clean: Quest's manual warns a clogged coil can need disassembly to clean, which is the repair this panel exists to prevent
  • Holds rated capacity: A loaded face makes the unit draw full power for fewer pints, so fresh media is the simplest way to hold output
  • 12 x 14 x 1, catalogue and tape agree: One of the few Quest filters with no gap between the published size and a tape measure
  • Covers all three Quest 100 builds: Quest lists the unit under parts 4032270 and 4044590, plus the 50-Hz build under 4046590-XX
  • Six-month check and change: Quest's manual sets both at six months, and calls for a change with every grow cycle in agriculture
