Salts accumulate quietly over a run. Every feed leaves a little behind in the lines, on the media and around the root zone. Past a certain point that residue starts locking nutrients away instead of delivering them. FloraKleen is a clearing solution rather than a feed. It goes in to dissolve what has collected and carry it out, which is a different job from anything on your feed chart. One rule governs the whole thing. It runs on its own, with no base nutrients in the tank alongside it. Adding it to a working reservoir defeats the point, because you are then flushing salts out with more salts going in. Drain first, then mix it into fresh water.
Rates for a Flushing Solution in a System or a Pot
Three jobs, three rates. For monthly maintenance, one to two teaspoons per gallon of fresh water. In a system, run that for one to two hours, then drain and refill with fresh nutrients. In soil or coco, mix the same rate in a watering can and drench until it runs from the bottom. Normal feeding resumes at the next watering. Heavy buildup takes more, up to about 38 mL per gallon. For a final flush, two teaspoons per gallon for the last one to two days before harvest. It is safe to use while plants are actively growing, so a correction does not have to wait for a gap in the schedule.
