What General Hydroponics Purpinator Is and Is Not

Start with the honest part. Purple expression is genetic, and no bottle puts it into a plant that cannot already produce it. General Hydroponics says as much, describing the product as performing best on plants that express purple pigmentation. What it does is feed the production of flavonoids, the compounds behind that colour. A cultivar carrying the trait then has the material to show it. The analysis is 0-2-4, with 2.0% phosphate, 4.0% potash and 0.9% sulfur, derived from monopotassium phosphate, potassium sulfate and magnesium sulfate.

Dosing a Flavonoid Supplement Through the Cycle

The rate climbs steeply as the plant moves through flower. Vegetative runs 2 to 5 mL per gallon. Early and mid bloom step up to 6 to 15. Late bloom and the flush go to 20 to 30 mL per gallon. That is six times the veg rate, and worth budgeting for before a drum arrives. It can go in as often as every watering without burning when used at those rates. Two limits are worth stating. It is a root drench and not a foliar spray. And it sits alongside a feed programme rather than replacing part of one, so the base chart does not change.

Key Features

  • Genetics come first: It supports purple expression in cultivars that can already produce it.
  • 0-2-4 analysis: 2.0% available phosphate, 4.0% soluble potash and 0.9% sulfur.
  • Derived from three salts: Monopotassium phosphate, potassium sulfate and magnesium sulfate.
  • Feeds flavonoid production: The plant compounds behind pigment, rather than a dye or a colourant.
  • 2 to 5 mL in veg: Building reserves before the plant is asked to express anything.
  • 6 to 15 mL in early bloom: Then 20 to 30 through late bloom and the flush, which is a steep climb.
  • Every watering if you want: At the published rates it will not burn, so frequency is your choice.
  • Root drench only: Not a foliar product, and it should not be sprayed on the leaf.
  • Runs with any programme: Compatible with General Hydroponics feeds or another manufacturer's.
  • 55 gallon drum: Commercial volume. Pumped or gravity fed rather than poured by hand.
