Two media, two jobs. Green coconut carbon handles chlorine, taste, odour and volatile organic compounds. KDF55 deals with heavy metals and inhibits bacterial growth inside the cartridge itself. Between them they also catch sediment, rust and iron particles before the water reaches a plant.

Why the HydroLogic Gro Green Is Restricted to 2 GPM

The flow restrictor is a feature rather than a limitation. Carbon works by contact time, so water has to stay in the media long enough for adsorption to happen. Open a hose bib fully and water blasts past the carbon barely touched. The hydrologic gro green holds flow at 2 GPM so the media gets the dwell time it was designed around. Filter life is 8,000 gallons, which is worth converting into your own numbers. At 2 GPM that is roughly 66 hours of continuous running before replacement. One honest limit. This is a carbon and KDF filter, so it removes chlorine, sediment and organics. It does not remove dissolved salts, so it will not move your PPM or EC. If your source water is hard or high in sodium, this is not the answer and reverse osmosis is. The body measures 14.5 x 6 x 2.5 in and it ships with a brass filter saver hose bib connector.
