Grodan's 50/40 plug gives each seedling a 50 x 50 x 40 mm stone wool block, or 2 x 2 x 1.6 in. Fifty plugs sit joined at the top of each sheet, and a sheet fits a standard 10 x 20 in tray. This carton holds 30 unwrapped sheets, 1,500 plugs in all, packed bulk for a working propagation room. That generous footprint suits peppers, tomatoes, squash and cuttings that stay in propagation a while before transplant. It also gives lettuce and herbs room to finish as sturdy starts for an NFT channel or a raft. Give it generous water for the first few days so the plug never dries against its new medium. Unwrapped sheets come out ready to condition, with no film to remove.
