What Comes in the Active Aqua Grow Flow 12-Site System

This complete ebb and flow system feeds twelve 2 gallon bucket modules from a single 7 gallon controller unit. A 55 gallon distribution reservoir with a drilled, locking lid holds the nutrient solution. Two 250 GPH high-flow submersible pumps move solution between the reservoir and the controller. A Grasslin timer on the controller sets each fill and drain cycle. Heavy-duty float switches on an adjustable ladder set how high the buckets fill. If a float switch ever fails, an emergency shut-off valve powers the system down to prevent an overflow. An LED on the control panel lights up at the same time, so the fault is easy to spot. Each bucket has a concave centre drain that empties fully, leaving no standing water in the root zone. Inner buckets lift out on their own, which makes moving or checking a single plant simple. All tubing, fittings and instructions are included, and the pumps run on standard 120V. The controller unit carries a three-year warranty.

Setting Up the Ebb and Flow Controller

The ebb and flow controller should sit within 10 ft of the reservoir. Set the controller, buckets and reservoir on one flat, level floor, with the tubing lying flat between them. Slide each upper float switch so it stops at least 3 in below the bucket rim. Run one test cycle with plain water before adding nutrients or media. Fill the buckets with a rinsed medium such as clay pebbles that will not float, stopping 1 in below the rim. Set transplants at least 3 in down so the flood reaches the roots. Most plants do well on three or four flood cycles a day, set in 15-minute steps on the timer. Add fresh solution only after a drain cycle has finished and the buckets are empty. Change the nutrient solution every 7 to 10 days, and clean the pump filters as needed. Check the float switches and tubing for debris or kinks, and flush any site that stops filling.
