Why This Soil pH Electrode Has a Conic Tip
A round bulb will not go into a rootball. The conic tip here is 12 x 12 mm, shaped to penetrate solids, semi solids and slurries. That is how you read pH in soil, rockwool, coco and perlite without making up an extract first. The body is glass and the probe is refillable.
Pairing It With a Hanna Soil pH Meter
One thing to settle first. This electrode carries a DIN connector and works with the HI9814 GroLine meter only. It is a replacement or spare for that instrument rather than a universal probe, and it supersedes the older HI1294D. On the electrode itself, two details matter. The junction is triple ceramic, flowing 40 to 50 microlitres an hour against the 15 to 20 of a single junction probe. That gives a steadier reading in a medium that clogs things. The glass is a low temperature formulation at about 50 megaohms, half the resistance of general purpose glass. Cold samples still read properly down to -5 C. Range is pH 0 to 12, the fill solution is HI7071, and there is a built-in temperature sensor and amplifier.
