Hanna HI70300L Storage Solution Keeps Probes Ready to Read

HI70300L is the electrode storage solution Hanna makes for its pH and ORP probes. A probe kept wet in it responds quickly and holds its calibration between uses. It keeps the glass membrane of a pH or ORP electrode hydrated and the reference junction clear. Each bottle holds 16 oz of reagent-grade solution, formulated to minimize microbial growth in the probe cap. The bottle ships under an airtight, tamper-proof seal with the lot number and expiry date printed on the label. Unopened, Hanna rates it for 5 years from manufacture. After cleaning an electrode, soak it for at least 1 hour before taking measurements again. That soak brings response time back and steadies the reading. Distilled or deionized water is not a substitute. Pure water pulls ions out of the glass and the reference electrolyte, which damages the electrode over time.

Using a pH Electrode Storage Solution in the Grow Room

Most pH pens have a small cap that holds a few drops around the bulb. Top that cap up after each session so the sensor never sits dry on the shelf. Benchtop and portable meters store best with the probe tip in a small glass of solution. Inline controller probes need the same care whenever a system is drained for cleaning between runs. Pull the probe, cap it with solution, and it will be ready when the reservoir is refilled. Replace the cap contents whenever they turn cloudy or have mostly evaporated. Keep the bottle closed and out of direct sun when it is not in use. This solution protects a healthy probe, but it cannot revive a cracked bulb or an electrode at the end of its life. It is also not a calibration standard, so never set a meter in it. Use it alongside fresh pH 7 and pH 4 buffers for a complete probe-care routine.
