A Raindrip Drip Irrigation Hole Punch for Supply Line Fittings

This is a handheld plastic punch that opens a clean hole in drip supply tubing for a dripper or a 1/4 in barbed fitting. It is sized for 1/2 in, 5/8 in and 0.710 in supply hose, the usual diameters of a drip mainline. Pressure-compensating drippers and 1/4 in barbed inserts seat in the hole it makes. Forcing a barb into unpunched tubing distorts the wall and invites a leak, and this tool takes that risk away. It works with one hand: set the tip on the tube and press down with the palm. A socket built into the handle fits micro spray jets, so the same tool installs or removes them. A supply of goof plugs comes with the punch. They seal holes that land in the wrong place or are no longer needed. Raindrip lists the part as model R630CT.

Laying Out a Drip Line and Sealing Mistakes With Goof Plugs

In a grow room, this tool turns a plain run of supply hose into a drip layout matched to the pots. Lay the tubing out first and mark each pot position before punching anything. Pinch the tube slightly into an oval so the tip goes through the top wall only, never both. Punch straight down rather than at an angle, then push the dripper or barb in straight away. A stray hole is not a disaster. Press a plug into it and the line holds pressure again. The same plugs close off a site when a pot comes out of the run between crops. The handle socket seats and pulls micro spray jets, which saves working them in by hand. Keep the tip clean, since grit and dried nutrient salts make it harder to cut a neat hole. It is sized for supply hose only, not for the thin quarter-inch distribution line that runs from the barb to the plant.

Key Features

  • Three supply tubing sizes: Fits 1/2, 5/8 and 0.710 in drip supply hose.
  • Clean entry for fittings: Opens a hole sized for PC drippers and 1/4 in barbed inserts.
  • One-hand operation: Palm pressure drives the punch while the other hand steadies the tube.
  • Built-in jet socket: The handle installs and removes micro spray jets.
  • Goof plugs included: Plugs seal misplaced or unused holes so the line holds pressure.
