Where the Big Boy Float Valve Earns Its Size

Bulk fill, not drip. This is a bulkhead tank valve rated near 20 GPM through a 0.48 in orifice. That is reservoir filling flow, not the trickle a small RO line puts out. The body is NSF approved PVC on 18-8 stainless hardware, with replaceable Santoprene seals, and it measures 14.75 in long.

Fitting a 20 GPM Float Valve to a Reservoir

It mounts through the tank wall, so you drill once and the valve does the rest. Water level adjusts on the arm, which matters more than it sounds. Set it low and you keep headroom for a nutrient dump instead of finding the floor wet. The seals are the wear item and they come apart, so a weeping valve is usually a seal rather than a whole new part. One honest caution about scale. Twenty gallons a minute is far more than a Stealth class system delivers. On a small line the 1/4 in valve is the right part instead. Distributor listings put the connection at 3/4 in male pipe thread. HydroLogic publishes the orifice and the materials but not the thread, so measure yours before plumbing.

Key Features

  • 20 GPM, 0.48 in orifice: Reservoir fill flow, not the trickle a small RO line puts out.
  • NSF approved PVC body: On 18-8 stainless hardware, so it lives inside a wet tank.
  • Replaceable Santoprene seals: The wear part comes apart. A weeper is usually a seal, not a valve.
  • Adjustable water level: Set it low and you keep headroom for a nutrient dump.
  • Bulkhead tank mount: One hole through the wall, then the tank fills unattended.
  • 14.75 in long: Worth measuring against the tank before you cut the hole.
  • Wrong part for a small line: On a Stealth class system the 1/4 in valve is the one you want.
