What the HydroLogic PreEvolution High Capacity Pre-Filter Adds to an RO Line

Past roughly 300 gallons of purified water a week, an RO unit asks more of its own pre-filter housings than they were built for. This stage takes that load off. An 18.5 by 17 by 9 in wall unit, 23 lbs, runs a pleated cleanable sediment element ahead of a KDF85/55 catalytic carbon cartridge. HydroLogic rates that cartridge at 7,500 gallons purified, cutting up to 99% of chlorine along with rust, silt, VOCs, mercury, lead and PCBs.

Living With a KDF85/55 Catalytic Carbon Dechlorinator Stage

The pleated sediment element is meant to be pulled, rinsed and put back rather than thrown away, with a replacement about twice a year. Mount the unit on the wall upstream of the RO so that rinse never means breaking into the rest of the line. A grower pulling a few gallons a week does not need this much filtration, and the standard housings will keep pace on their own.
