Kessil A80 Tuna Blue Output, Spectrum and Build

This compact light draws up to 15W from a supply rated 100–240V AC in and 24V DC out. Its color dial moves from 10,000K through deep ocean blue to sky blue and actinic. A proprietary UV blend adds pop to coral color under blue settings. A second dial sets brightness. The body is only 0.98 in tall and 4.88 in across, and it weighs 0.88 lb. Cooling is fanless, so it runs silently over a desk or bedroom tank. A 0–10V input lets a reef controller or Kessil's Spectral Controller X set schedules. Several A80s can be daisy-chained for a long, shallow tank. A top mounting adapter comes in the box. Goosenecks and full-angle adapters are sold separately.

Setting Up a Nano Reef Light Over a Small Tank

A nano reef light has to cover a small footprint without hot spots or glare. The A80 is rated at 18 x 18 in for soft corals and 12 x 12 in for a mixed reef. That suits most pico and nano reef tanks. Mount it on a gooseneck so the head can be raised or tilted as corals grow. Start at low intensity for new corals and step it up over two to three weeks. Bleached tips or closed polyps mean the light is too strong or too close. Many reefers run the dial toward blue for fluorescence and add white for viewing. Pair it with a controller for sunrise and sunset ramps that ease stress on fish. For tanks larger than 18 x 18 in, the 40W A160WE Tuna Blue gives more reach. Freshwater and planted nanos should use the A80 Tuna Sun instead.
