Kessil A80 Tuna Sun Output, Spectrum and Build
This small light draws up to 15W through a power supply rated 100–240V AC in and 24V DC out. The color dial runs from 6,000K to 9,000K, a daylight range for freshwater plants and fish. A second dial sets brightness. Kessil builds it on a single Dense Matrix array, so the light leaves one point and shimmers across the water. The body is under 1 in tall and just under 5 in across. It uses the same compact housing as the A80 Tuna Blue. Cooling is fanless, which keeps it quiet on a desk or nightstand. A 0–10V input connects it to an aquarium controller or Kessil's Spectral Controller X. Several units can be linked for a longer tank. A top mounting adapter is included, and goosenecks are sold separately.
Growing Plants Under a Nano Planted Tank Light
A nano planted tank light needs enough reach for carpeting plants without fueling algae. The A80 is rated at 18 x 18 in for lightly planted tanks and 12 x 12 in for moderately planted ones. That covers most shrimp tanks, betta tanks and small aquascapes. Start with a short photoperiod, around six hours, and lengthen it as plants root in. Match brightness to your CO2 and fertilizer, since strong light without nutrients invites algae. Warmer settings bring out reds in plants and fish. Cooler settings at the top of the dial look brighter and crisper. Run it on a controller to ramp mornings and evenings, which keeps shrimp and fish calmer. For a longer tank, two units or the 40W A160WE Tuna Sun give better coverage. Saltwater nanos need the A80 Tuna Blue with its actinic and UV mix.
